On December 17, 2019, the first didactic seminar under the project “To know and understand. Memory in the name of the future. Development of educational networks and civil society in the Polish-Saxon border region” dedicated to teachers implementing German-Polish projects in the border region. The aim of the meeting was to demonstrate the formal consideratios related to creating and implementing the project.

Having acquainted themselves with the contents of the seminar, the participants proceeded to group work, where they could confront their previous experiences and gather inspiration for future activities.
Further seminars of this type are planned as part of the project “To know and understand. Memory in the name of the future”, as well as professional conferences on topics related to the implementation of cross-border projects on topics such as regional history and civic education. We will keep you informed about the dates of upcoming events.

On 11 October 2019, the European Centre Memory, Education, Culture – Memorial Stalag VIII A, hosted the first educational workshop called “Stalag VIII A and the history of the memorial”.
It was the first event in a series of workshops, which are to be held from October 2019 to March 2020 as part of the INTERREG Polska-Saxony 2014-2020 project.

The project is aimed at students of two Polish and one German school, who meet regularly to develop their cultural and linguistic competences and broaden their knowledge of the regional history.
At the workshops, the young participants had the opportunity to get to know each other during various integration exercises. Then, by visiting an exhibition, they learned about the history of the former POW camp Stalag VIIIA. The schoolchildren also had the opportunity to see the memorial site. As the last part of the workshop, the young people took a deeper look at a biography of one of the former POWs in order to get a better grasp of the issue.
The next workshop for the Polish-German youth group will take place in early December.

On Friday, 6 December 2019, the European Centre Memory, Education, Culture – Memorial Stalag VIIIA, held its second educational workshop called “Stalag VIIIA and the History of the Memorial”. This is the second meeting in a series of workshops planned for the period between October 2019 and March 2020.

The workshops, implemented within the INTERREG Polska-Saxony 2014-2020 cooperation programme, involve activities in two Polish and one German school. Students meet regularly to develop their linguistic and cultural competences and learn about the history of the region. 

The Friday workshop was attended by 50 students, who initially took part in integration games and exercises, and then prepared presentations on the history of Stalag VIIIA working in mixed German-Polish groups. 

The next workshop for this Polish-German group will take place in spring 2020.
