ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE COLLECTION OF MEMORABILLIA OF PRISONERS OF THE FORMER POW CAMP – STALAG VIIIA

The Foundation Memory, Education, Culture announces within the project ” To know and understand. Memory in the name of the future. Development of educational networks and civil society in the Polish-Saxon border region ” funded by the EU through the programme INTERREG Poland – Saxony 2014-2020.

An international collection of memorabilia of the former POW camp – Stalag VIII A.

We are looking for, among others, originals or copies of photographs, documents, letters, elements of clothes, everyday objects and others of historical value.

In connection with the above, we address enthusiasts of the history of Stalag VIIIA and relatives of former prisoners of war, residents of Zgorzelec and Görlitz for help in finding and obtaining related with these place materials.

All objects will be adequately protected from the effects of time and will be used for aims of the museum and educational purposes.

The documents and artefacts can be found on our website ( www.fpek.pl ) and the most valuable of them on the Foundation’s main exhibition and temporary exhibitions.

The purpose of the collection is to save and preserve souvenirs connected to the Second World War and the history of the POW camp, collecting them and cataloguing them in the archives of the unit concerning researchers and future exhibitions.

The collection will last until the end of March 2021.
